error 651,,,  again
I bought a PC with win 7 Pro July 2010, I hooked it up to my existing home network system of 4 pcs with XP home. I can get the Pcs to share files and printers but not the win 7 ICS. It keeps telling me it is disconnected, when i try to connect the error message " 651" comes up I am told that if I replace raspppoe.sys with an older version from vista then the ISC in win 7 will work . The problem is that this file is controlled by " Tustedinstaller" . In instructions I found on this message board detailing how to take over control of the file , don´t seem to work , when i get to step 4 the permissions area is grayed out and so is the add user and i cannot tick any box . any tips ?? steps taken . 1. Please navigate to the target file/folder. windows/sistem32/drivers/raspppoe.sys ok 2. Right-click on file raspppoe.sys and choose Properties. ok 3. Click the "Security" tab and see if your current user is listed in the "Group or user names" list. ok ( If not, please click Edit-> Add button, type the name of your current user in the "Enter the object names to select " box, then click "OK" to add this group) 4. click edit and Select the user from the list and then check the "Allow" checkbox next to "Full Control". no 5. Click the Advanced button and click the "Owner" tab. Then, press "Edit" button. 6. Select current user from the list and check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" checkbox. 7. Click "OK" to save changes and wait for Windows 7 to transfer the ownership of all the objects on the partition. 8. Click OK again to save changes and exit the Properties window.

Hi, I would like to confirm how did you try to connect the Windows 7 computer to the Internet, via router, modem or ICS? Please perform the following troubleshooting steps: 1. Make sure the router and the modem are compatible with Windows 7. 2. Update the router and the modem firmware. 3. Install the latest version of the network adapter drivers from the third party manufacturer’s website. 4. Change the network cable to test the issue. 5. Disable the third party software and test the issue in Clean Boot and Safe Mode with Networking. What are the results? In addition, if you want to replace the raspppoe.sys file. You may rename the original one and replace another one in WinRE. To do it, you may boot into System Recovery Options and launch Command Prompt.
